“Kiyeon” (機緣, 기연) in Korean and Chinese language translates to “serendipitous encounter.” In Western tradition, it is known as meaningful encounter, or, according to Carl Jung, synchronicity.
The next time you meet someone for the first time, pause a while and think about the odd of that happening. The possibility of you meeting that person is about in 8 billion, if counting only the living. The odd would be even less if we weren’t limited by the time and space we are currently in now. We have no way of knowing whether these encounters happen by accident, or they are a result of careful planning done eons ago by an invisible hand. Regardless, we at Kiyeon prefer to believe that life is full of serendipitous encounters and they are worth paying attention to, as they may be opportunities for us to help others, or to deepen our understanding on why we have been put on this beautiful rock called earth. So we welcome all of them. After all, life as a journey is more bountiful when it is done with fellow travelers of all stripes.
